About
Chris Sweigart is the Digital Video Director of Gannett’s Video Production Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The VPC produces live and on demand video to be distributed across Gannett’s network of websites — including local newspapers and broadcast stations and USA Today.
He is a true multimedia journalist, with experience in television, online publishing and social media.
Chris previously worked as the Manager of Digital Content for 11Alive News, overseeing news content on the station’s digital platforms — including websites, mobile apps and social media.
Chris joined 11Alive as a Web Producer in October 2007. He quickly moved through the ranks. He was later promoted to a reporter position and then promoted again to the Manager of Digital Content position.
Chris came back to his roots in Atlanta after a stint in Columbus, Georgia where he also wore several hats.
As a reporter for WRBL-TV, Sweigart’s work knew no borders. In 2005, he was embedded with the Army’s 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based out of Fort Benning, Georgia, during the unit’s second deployment to Iraq. Aside from covering Fort Benning and the Army, he also covered city politics. While his job description said “Television Reporter”, Sweigart often contributed articles for WRBL’s newspaper partner, The Opelika-Auburn News.
After two years as a reporter, Sweigart was promoted to Web Site Coordinator for WRBL.com and OANow.com. During his time running both sites, he implemented dozens of online initiatives including the launch of AuburnVersus.com and a redesign of WRBL.com.
Sweigart graduated from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta with a degree in Politics. While in college, he worked behind the scenes as a production assistant for CSS covering sports around the Southeast. He also completed two internships at CNN.
