Wish List

I’ll preface this wish list with a caveat: Many of the things on this list are, perhaps, a bit extravagant.  I know this.  I don’t actually expect anybody to buy any of these things for me.  In many instances, these are things that I wouldn’t even buy for myself!  That’s why this is a “wish” list.

But, I hope by sharing with you some of the things that I wish for, you might discover new things that interest you (and maybe give you a couple of ideas if you’re ever in the market for a gift for Chris ;)).

So, in no particular order, here’s my Wish List:

GADGETS

Let’s start with the gadgets that I have.

I’m quickly turning into a big time Apple geek.  So, Apple accessories are definitely cool.  I have the…

  • iPhone 4S
  • iPad 2
  • Apple TV

So, things like an Apple Wireless Keyboard or the Camera Connection Kit are things I’ve been looking for.

And if you really want to go nuts, this iPad 2 case from J.W. Hulme Co. is probably the coolest one I’ve ever seen.  It would definitely make for a cool gift for Dad. ;)

Also, I’ve been looking around lately at digital cameras.  (You can thank Shea for that.  She planted that seed in my head.)  The micro four-thirds cameras are really appealing to me because they combine the benefits of an SLR with the practicality of a point-and-shoot.  Here’s what I’ve had my eye on (again, thanks to Shea!):

Sony Alpha NEX-5N

BAGS

With all the gadgets I’ve been carrying around, my messenger bag is starting to get a little worn out.  While the worn patina is charming now, I know its only a matter of time before I’ll be forced into the market for a new bag to carry to work (and everywhere else I go).

With that in mind, I’ve had my eye on a couple of bags from Jack Spade.  I like them all for different reasons.

Waxed Wool Weekend Messenger
Color: Charcoal

Nylon Canvas Computer Field Bag
Color: Grey, Navy or Green

Mill Leather Field Messenger
Color: Saddle

Nylon Canvas Port Case (Probably my favorite, because it something different that what I already have)
Color: Black or Navy

CLOTHES

I don’t have any specific “wishes” when it comes to clothing.  But, that doesn’t mean I couldn’t use a few things in my closet. Here’s what I’m looking for:

Dress Shirts - Slim or tailored fit. Traditional colors and fabrics.  Sizes below.

Slacks and pants - Straight leg.  Flat front.  No pleats, please.

Ties - Narrow cut (not skinny).  They don’t have to be silk.  Wool, cotton, chambray and knit ties are all really cool.  I prefer solids and simple patterns (stripes and dots).

Sweaters - I wear ‘em all the time.  Solids are the most versatile for me.  A thinner wool weave is usually preferred, as it is better for layering and for wearing to work.  V-Neck is usually my favorite, again because I can wear it to work, layered over a dress shirt.  Usually a size large.

Socks - Go nuts.  Loud, bright colors and patterns are awesome.  Check out my favorite stores below for some good sources.

As some of you know, I’m trying to turn over a new leaf when it comes to working out.  Thanks to Groupon, I’ve been waking up before dawn four days a week in November to go to boot camp.  The plan is to create a habit of working out (running, jogging, whatever) several days per week.

But sadly, I don’t have a lot of work out cloths and gear.  So, gym shorts, breathable shirts and other workout gear would certainly be appreciated.  Dick’s is a good go-to spot for this stuff.

OUTERWEAR

There are a lot of great places to find outerwear.  L.L. Bean is one of the best.  But lately, I’ve had my eye on Schott N.Y.C.  They make some of the coolest jackets and coats I’ve seen.  And, they get great reviews.  Here’s my favorite:

Men’s Slim Fitting Wool Peacoat
DU704I
Color: New Navy
Size: Large

MY FAVORITES

Looking for something that’s not on my list?  Here are some places where you can’t go wrong!

Sid Mashburn
Whoa!  Really cool stuff here.  Really cool.  Also, a lot of it is really expensive.  But, the West Side shop (off Howell Mill Road) is really cool.  And, believe it or not, there are a lot of really cool accessories for sale here, at a not totally crazy price.

J.Crew
Good for shirts, ties, sweaters, pants and accessories

Banana Republic
Good for shirts, ties, sweaters, pants and accessories

hook + ALBERT
I have all the laces. ;)  Socks, ties and accessories here are pretty cool.

Park & Bond
Lots of really expensive stuff here.  But, there are also a lot of cool accessories, some of which are reasonably priced.  This is one of the websites I go to for “ideas”, then buy elsewhere.

MY SIZES

  • Shirt: 16.5” (neck), 35” (sleeve)
  • Pants: 34” (waist), 34” (inseam)
  • Jacket/Blazer: 41 Long
  • Shoe: 13
